CineFilipino Best Picture ‘Ang Kwento ni Mabuti’ Starring Nora Aunor Gets Extended Run

$

Ang Kwento ni Mabuti², one of the Best Picture winners in the recently concluded CineFilipino Film Festival, will have an extended run in Gateway and Ali Mall cinemas for another week starting Wednesday, September 25.

Kwento

This was announced by the Araneta Group¹s Gateway Cineplex after Ang Kwento ni Mabuti bagged the awards for Best Picture (tied with Ang Huling Cha-cha ni Anita), Best Screenplay and Best Director at the CineFilipino awards night and also because of the film¹s top grosser status.

This is good news, as ŒMabuti¹ sold out almost all its screenings, and it gives a chance for those who missed the film to catch it during the coming week,² said Unitel President Madonna Tarrayo.

Ang Kwento ni Mabuti screening schedule in Gateway Cineplex is 12:10pm, 2:35pm, 5:00pm and 7:25 p.m. It will also be showing in Ali Mall cinemas at 1:35pm, 4:00pm, 6:25pm and 8:50pm. For more information, visit www.cinefilipino.com.

Kapuso A-list actor Richard Gutierrez is reportedly taping as a guest in comedy show, Gandang Gabi Vice. But the answer to the ultimate question if he will be transferring to the Kapamilya network is yet to be confirmed.

Richard-Gutierrez-transfer-to-ABS-CBN-2013-Photo

Among the prized Kapuso stars, Gutierrez is one of those who have long been sitting on the bench as he had no project in the recent past.

He was once competing against the newly-crowned Kapuso Primetime King, Dingdong Dantes for the crown.

However, the actor seemed to have lost the battle to Dantes after a few flopped movies and low-rating tv series under the Kapuso network.

Plus, his manager-mother, the ever controversial Anabel Rama had (series of) fights with several GMA executives. The most recent was when Richard’s girlfriend, Sarah Lahbati, messed up her relationship with GMA Artist Center.

Carinderia

One of the highpoints of the 2-day event is the search for the next Carinderia Queen and this is definitely not your cookie cutter kind of beauty pageant.

Beyond Beauty – Carinderia Queen 2013 Pageant is in line with Magnolia Fresh Chicken Carinderia Fiesta’s objective as an advocacy program – which is to encourage every kusinera and carinderia owner to take pride in their craft. To salute the service frontliners and our alternative nanay, ate, or tita during our breakfasts, lunches and dinners the hailed Carinderia Queen will serve as the ambassador for all the carinderia owners.

80 charming carinderia queen aspirants battled it out during the pre pagreant ceremonies at the Manila Ocean Park for the chance to be chosen as one of the 14 Semi – finalists. They will join the rest of the carinderia participants as well as the drum and bugle corps during the opening day’s welcome parade and take centerstage on October 11, 2013 for Carinderia Queen Pageant Talent Night. The new Carinderia Queen and her court will be revealed on October 12 during the coronation night hosted by Ms. Amy Perez and special guests.

The search for the Next Carinderia Queen will take to serious task a team of judges lead by no less than Mama Renee Salud who will evaluate the candidates based on their Knowledge of the Carinderia business, Personality, Attitude and their inspiring Buhay Carinderia stories.

The crowned Carinderia Queen 2013 and her court will win Condura Negosyo Refrigerators, Gazito Set from PR Gaz, Gift Pack from OpenRice.com, Cookwares from Ramesh Trading and Assorted Gifts from Nutri-Asia, Dole Philippines, Ever Bilena, Mega Sardines, Island Gas among others. The People’s Choice Award will be given a special prize by Sun Cellular.

The Reigning Carinderia Queen 2012 is Ms. Luisa Matsushita of Chezta Eatery and has since winning been able to establish two more branches.

Magnolia Fresh Chicken Carinderia Fiesta, launched last September 23-24, 2011 at the World Trade Center, was lauded by the public and the various business units in the food industry for its unforeseen, overwhelming success. A clamor for another carinderia episode followed, fuelled by an insatiable desire to continue on inspiring kusineros and kusineras to excel in their own carinderia business. Topping the Year 1 and 2, Carinderia Fiesta Year III, dubbed as the “The Most Celebrated Carinderia Event of the Year!” aims to help more carinderias in the country by helping them realize their true worth amidst the landscape of our Filipino culture. The event aims to uplift the level and standards of our very own carinderias while keeping the true Pinoy culture, may it be in cooking, flavor and values.

What makes an athlete truly great? Is it just the hours put into practice? Could it be the inborn talent that one possesses? Or is there more behind the road to on-court stardom?

UAAP Magazine 2013

Gear up for greatness this season as the much awaited fourth issue of the UAAP Magazine goes into all the little details behind some of the UAAP’s most successful athletes. In a feature on volleybelle Michele Gumabao of the three-peat champion team, the DLSU Lady Spikers, and Ateneo King Eagle Kiefer Ravena, who both grace the cover of this jam-packed issue, readers get an in-depth look into how hard work translates into stories of success.

This season’s magazine throws the spotlight on volleyball, which has emerged as the UAAP’s new power sport. Now rivaling the men’s basketball games in terms of crowd attendance, which peaked with last season’s title series between Ateneo and La Salle, volleyball has definitely come a long way.

Also in this issue is a touching story about how one of today’s best collegiate players looked to his greatest mentor in order to accomplish his dreams. Following a successful stint thus far that has led his team to the top spot in the upcoming semifinals of UAAP Season 76, NU Bulldogs star player Ray-Ray Parks takes a step back to thank the man responsible for his dedication to the sport, personally penning a tribute to his late father, PBA star import Bobby Parks in an article he personally penned entitled “In the Eyes of a Son”.

Starting from when Ray-Ray began playing basketball at four up to the last days he spent with the man he continues to deem his greatest mentor, “In the Eyes of a Son” delivers an account of pure gratitude that translates to Ray-Ray’s outstanding performance in the sport of his choice.

Many other college athletes also take the spotlight, including members of the DLSU Lady Spikers, Season 76’s men’s basketball rookies, the UAAP’s top male swimmers, and much more.

Aside from all that, with the excitement brought about by Season 76’s Cheerdance Competition, enjoy a comprehensive feature on the history of this event and why it has become the crowd-drawer that it is today.

All of these and more are in the 2013 issue of the UAAP Magazine, as brought to readers by ABS-CBN Publishing, Inc. in partnership with the University Athletics Association of the Philippines and ABS-CBN Sports. Catch UAAP Season 76 live on Studio 23, with replays on Balls Channel.

Benjie Paras and Vergel Meneses Share Struggles as Single Dads

Basketball legends and single parents Vergel Meneses and Benjie Paras share with Antony Taberna the hardships of raising children alone in “Tapatan ni Tunying” this Thursday (September 26).

“You have to think of your kids first in everything that you do,” shared Vergel, PBA’s “Aerial Voyager.”

Meanwhile, PBA’s “Tower of Power” Benjie said he is proud of his sons, 17-year-old Andre and 15-year-old Kobe who have become basketball players in their respective schools.

Basketball may run in the Paras family’s blood, but for Benjie, education outweighs athletics.

“They have to prioritize their studies before sports,” he said.

Benjie will also talk about his controversial failed marriage with former actress Jackie Forster in the episode.

After retiring from basketball and focusing on his showbiz career for nine years, Benjie went back to the hard court last year to guide San Beda Red Lions in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), alongside fellow PBA legend Coach Ronnie Magsanoc.

“My knowledge in basketball has revived because of coaching. I am helping younger players to share with them what I achieved before,” Benjie said.

Similarly, Vergel also returns to the basketball scene as the head coach of Jose Rizal University Bombers in the NCAA and assistant coach of Air 21 in the PBA. He admitted that playing basketball is easier compared to coaching, which motivates him to inculcate values for better team play.

“Coaching is harder and more challenging. You have to deal with 15 players with different attitudes,” he shared.

Don’t miss “Tapatan ni Tunying” (TNT) this Thursday (September 26), 4:45 PM on ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Gold. For updates, follow @tntunying or like www.facebook.com/tntunying.

“The next encounters of Leonel (Enchong) and Francis (Enrique) will be more intense as my father in the story, Anton (Christopher de Leon), carries on with his plan to take revenge against the family of Doña Adelina (Susan Roces), who maltreated his family in the past” shared Enchong, who is grateful to all the viewers’ appreciation to his ‘most challenging role.’ With his well-applauded performance in “Muling Buksan Ang Puso,” Enchong has a new teleserye and movie lined up.

Like Enchong, Enrique is thankful to their primetime series that gave them the chance to prove their knack for acting.

“Because of ‘Muling Buksan Ang Puso,’ Enchong, Julia and I were able to show our skills in drama. We’re proud that our teleserye did not only give ‘kilig’ to our TV viewers but shared a tale that is close to the hearts of Filipino families,” said Enrique, who after the series will be busier with his upcoming Star Cinema movie and solo concert in Araneta Coliseum on November 29.

Leading lady Julia Montes is elated with the special success that their series has achieved.

“All the hardwork and sleepless nights are worth it because since we premiered on July 8 until now, we can feel the love of everyone because we see it through our consistent high ratings,” explained Julia, who is well-acclaimed as a full-fledged actress through her effective portrayal as Sarah.

Meanwhile, Julia, Enrique and Enchong will personally thank their loyal viewers through a mini-concert and album launch that will happen this Saturday (September 28), 5pm, at SM Fairview Annex. “Muling Buksan Ang Puso” lead stars will be joined in their mall show by three of Star Records’ best-selling recording artists namely Erik Santos, Jed Madela and Angeline Quinto.

Protégé season 2 female winner–Thea Tolentino–is delighted to know that her first major project on GMA Network after winning the reality artista search is consistently beating its rival shows in the National TV Ratings.

Pyra 017

Thea Louise Tolentino topbills the new GMA Afternoon Prime series “Pyra” where she breathes life to the character of a girl with pyrokinesis power. The said fantaserye marks the first title role of the 17-year-old’s budding career after appearing in various Kapuso programs like “Teen Gen,” “Love and Lies,” “Anna Karenina” and “Maynila.”

Just like her character as Pyra, Thea is “on fire” because her new soap is currently beating its rival programs on ABS-CBN and TV5 not only in AGB Nielsen’s Mega Manila TV Ratings but also in Kantar Media’s National TV Ratings as well.

During a blog conference for “Pyra” on September 24 at GMA Network building in Quezon City, Thea expressed her joy upon learning that her TV show is doing very well in the ratings game.

“Masaya kasi pinagtatrabahuhan po namin ng mabuti [Pyra] para sa ikabubuti ng show at nakaka-wala ng pagod. Talagang nakaka-proud kasi siyempre lahat po kami rito nagtutulungan,” she said.

What does she likes to be known for, good acting or high ratings of her show?

“Acting kasi para saan pa ang quality ng show kung hindi naman sila ganun kagaling. ‘Yung naman pong following, marami namang lumalabas na mas bago na mas magaling so lilipas po ‘yun so ‘yung galing hindi po nawawala, ‘yun po ang tingin ko so ‘yung quality ng show depends on the acting of the actors and actresses,” she pointed out.

According to the producer of the drama-fantasy series, “Pyra” was inspired by a report in 2012 about an eleven year old boy with super psychic abilities that drew hundreds of curious people, including the media, to his home in Gubat, Sorsogon. It was mentioned in the news that the boy has the ability to mysteriously produce fire. There is also a similar case of a three-year-old in Antique documented in March 2011 that also relates to pyrokinesis.

In the series, Pyra has the ability to create, manipulate and be able to hold fire in her hands and this usually happens when she experience extreme anger. Because of this, she learns how to control her emotions and develops a sunny disposition and positive outlook in life. Although she grew up not knowing who her real parents are, Pyra is raised by a very loving and fiercely protective mother Merly.

Playing Pyra’s leading man is the male winner of Protégé season 2, Jeric Gonzales, who portrays Jeffrey Calida, an uptight and perfectionist geek who will eventually fall for the female protagonist.

Pyra 022

The series also stars Angelu de Leon as Merly, the fiercely protective mother of Pyra. Character actress Gladys Reyes plays the role of Susan Del Fierro, an achiever, go getter and someone who will not stop until she gets what she wants. New Kapuso star Roxanne Guinoo plays the role of Barbara Del Fierro, the biological mother of Pyra.

Other cast-members include Ryan Eigenmann, Christopher Roxas, Polo Ravales, Elle Ramirez, Zandra Summer and Mr. Janno Gibbs.

Under the direction of Roderick Lindayag (“Alakdana,” “Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin,” “Kakambal ni Eliana”), “Pyra” airs Mondays thru Fridays after “Maghihintay Pa Rin” under the Afternoon Prime block of GMA Network.
